6A District 2 recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 6A District 2 this week, Jenks beat Muskogee 56-14. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Putnam City made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,492 from 3,772. The improvement was largely due to a 24-20 victory over the Pirates last week.
Blake Cooper was the best receiver in the league this week as Bixby defeated Putnam City. Cooper racked up 5 receptions for 62 yards. Taylor Jones helped Bixby's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 36 yards.
Bixby's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Spartans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Marshall Ray has thrown for 1,938 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, while Kyle Rhine has 27 catches for 520 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Jenks and the Spartans. Allan Trimble's team enters the contest ranked first in the state, while Bixby ranks eighth.
Entering into this week's contest against the Trojans, Ray is short just 62 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Spartans' Rhine goes up against Jenks' Steven Parker.
Next week's game between Bixby and the Trojans will feature a good passing match up as Ray will test his arm against Parker's defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when Jenks and the Spartans face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Trojans comes in having scored 296 this season, while Bixby has scored 240. Jenks scored 56 points last week as it bested the Roughers.
Broken Arrow led 6A District 2 in scoring this week after putting up 70 points on Edison.
