The Ponderosa Mustangs waltzed into their game Friday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They blew past Elizabeth 80-42 at home. Considering Ponderosa has won five games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Noah Wilhelm, who scored 30 points along with three steals. The matchup was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Karsteter, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Elizabeth lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cooper Connelley. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. The match was Connelley's third in a row with at least ten points. Diessen Lindsay was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Ponderosa pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Elizabeth, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
Ponderosa will be home for the holidays to greet Wheat Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wheat Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Thursday. As for Elizabeth, they will head out on the road to face off against Holy Family at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Holy Family presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Elizabeth in Colorado (Holy Family is ranked 27th, while Elizabeth is ranked 246th).
