Northeast Jones is 9-1 against Mendenhall since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Northeast Jones Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Mendenhall Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Northeast Jones' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 41-32 to Morton. While losing is never fun, Northeast Jones can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Morton is ranked eighth).
Despite their loss, Northeast Jones saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Erin Jefferson, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Falasia Cooley, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Mendenhall's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to Wayne County 49-44.
Northeast Jones has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Mendenhall, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Northeast Jones strolled past Mendenhall in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 64-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northeast Jones since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
