Cherokee Trail hasn't had much luck against Rock Canyon recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cherokee Trail Cougars will take on the Rock Canyon Jaguars at 4:15 p.m. Rock Canyon took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Cherokee Trail, who comes in off a win.
Cherokee Trail is headed out to face Rock Canyon after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Cherokee Trail came out on top against Legend by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday. The Cougars have beaten the Titans the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Titans has come to flipping the script.
Ethin Woltz looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Jacob Ryan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Michael Zimmerman was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Rock Canyon fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Arapahoe on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 10-9.
Damian Fischer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Zach Perry made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Max Olson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run.
Even though they lost, Rock Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Cherokee Trail couldn't quite finish off Rock Canyon in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can Cherokee Trail avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
