The Ashley Screaming Eagle will head out on the road to square off against the New Hanover Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Ashley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
Ashley suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 39-17 walloping at the hands of Hoggard. Ashley has not had much luck with Hoggard recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Ashley had strong showings from Bella Cook, who scored ten points along with six rebounds, and Jaeden Hudson, who scored two points along with two steals. Hudson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led New Hanover over West Brunswick in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. New Hanover took down West Brunswick 51-32. Given New Hanover's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while West Brunswick is ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ashley has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for New Hanover, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
Ashley came up short against New Hanover when the teams last played on January 5th, falling 46-37. Can Ashley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
