The Las Plumas Thunderbirds will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Shasta Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Las Plumas has five straight victories, Shasta has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Las Plumas got the win against Durham by a conclusive 12-1. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.
Kendal Headley spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Adriana Heredia, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Lexi Hobbs was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Heredia wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Las Plumas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Durham only managed four hits.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Shasta's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Red Bluff on Saturday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Wolves were not able to get on the board.
Las Plumas' win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.5 runs. As for Shasta, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Shasta's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Las Plumas has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Shasta, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Las Plumas' sizable advantage in that area, Shasta will need to find a way to close that gap.
Las Plumas took their victory against Shasta in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1. Will Las Plumas repeat their success, or does Shasta have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
