St. Clair County is 0-10 against Alexandria since April of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The St. Clair County Fighting Saints will be taking part in a tournament against the Alexandria Valley Cubs at 9:00 a.m. St. Clair County will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
St. Clair County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Pisgah on Friday. St. Clair County put the hurt on Pisgah with a sharp 10-4 win. While the Fighting Saints didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-22-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Aniyah Dean was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylann Byers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
St. Clair County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. They are undefeated (4-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Alexandria never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Collinsville 7-0. That's two games straight that the Valley Cubs have won by exactly seven runs.
The team relied heavily on Kaden Pritchett, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Brenlee Sparks was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Alexandria's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.4 runs. As for St. Clair County, their record now sits at 8-5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. St. Clair County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Alexandria struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Clair County couldn't quite get it done against Alexandria when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can St. Clair County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
