Softball Recap: Sarasota Wins Going Away Against North Port

The matchup between Sarasota and North Port on Thursday hardly resembled the 2-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Sailors were the clear victors by an 18-7 margin over the Bobcats. Considering the Sailors have won 13 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ashlan Guengerich was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Jade Hendrickson was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carley Ramsden, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Sarasota kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Sarasota and bumps their season record up to 14-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for North Port, they moved to 7-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Sarasota has already played their next contest, a 4-3 win against Riverview Sarasota on the 11th. As for North Port, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Port Charlotte at 7:00 p.m.
