Baseball Recap: Lyons Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Lyons's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Proviso West Panthers an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Lions have won 12 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Owen Cypress looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lyons let Nathan Fitzgerald and Tanner Fridrych run wild. Fitzgerald got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Fridrych went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave Fridrych a new career-high. Noah Hickey was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in three consecutive games.

Lyons pushed their record up to 19-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Proviso West, they are on an 18-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-20.

Coming up, Lyons will look to defend their home field on Monday against Hinsdale Central at 4:30 p.m. As for Proviso West, they will head out on the road to take on Proviso East at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.71 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
