Softball Recap: Donelson Christian Academy Extends Winning Streak to Four

Donelson Christian Academy had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 20-run drubbing they dealt Mount Juliet Christian Academy on Monday. The Wildcats never let the Saints get on the board and left with a 20-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rachael Baker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Averie Beltran was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brynley Usry, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Donelson Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Donelson Christian Academy, bringing their record up to 20-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mount Juliet Christian Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Donelson Christian Academy will challenge rival Friendship Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 2.8, the Commanders 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Mount Juliet Christian Academy is set to face off against their familiar foe Ezell-Harding Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
