Miamisburg has gone a perfect 5-0 against Edgewood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Miamisburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Miamisburg took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Springboro, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Panthers on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Rhianna Pigman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Miamisburg's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mikaela Holp, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Edgewood suffered their closest loss since April 15, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Miamisburg by a score of 5-3. The Cougars have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Evelyn Henson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Madison Ferrell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Miamisburg's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Edgewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Edgewood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Miamisburg has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Edgewood, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Miamisburg's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
Miamisburg skirted past Edgewood 5-3 when the teams last played on Friday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
