Belen has gone 9-1 against Aztec recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Tigers at 2:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Belen took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Socorro with a sharp 20-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Aztec ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Taos 10-9.
Jace Archuleta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brody Segotta, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
Belen pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Aztec, their record is now 9-4.
Everything went Belen's way against Aztec in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Belen made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
