The Mercer Mustangs will head out to take on the Laurel Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mercer is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Mercer nor Wilmington made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mustangs walked away with a 4-1 win over the Greyhounds.
Angelina Eakman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Farren Baldwin was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ainsley Baldwin, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Laurel came out on top against Riverside on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Spartans never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Spartans have won three matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Riley Balcom looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hailey Fell, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Alexis Bair was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Laurel hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Mercer's record is now 6-0. As for Laurel, their record now sits at 4-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mercer hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Laurel struggles in that department as they've averaged .387. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mercer was able to grind out a solid win over Laurel when the teams last played back in March of 2025, winning 6-3. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
