The Bennett Clippers lost against the Decatur Seahawks back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Bennett took a 35-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of Decatur. Bennett has struggled against Decatur recently, as their game on Monday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Leading Decatur to victory were Makenzee Purnell and Allison Swift. Purnell scored eight points along with six rebounds, while Swift scored nine points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Purnell has scored all season.
Bennett's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-2. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.4 points per game. As for Decatur, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bennett will finish 2023 at home by hosting Laurel at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Laurel is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. Decatur will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pocomoke at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
