The Woodlands Highlanders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spring Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Woodlands has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 448 points over their last eight contests.
The Woodlands pushed their score all the way to 52 two weeks ago, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 60-52 to Willis.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Mabrey Mettauer and Derek Lagway. Lagway had a great game and rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Meanwhile, Mettauer was balling out in the loss, rushing for 23 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 177 yards and a touchdown while completing 84.6% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Spring can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent contest on Thursday. They blew past Eisenhower 40-10 at home. The victory was just what Spring needed coming off of a 44-24 loss in their prior contest.
Spring had a senior duo take command as Tre?Sean Cunningham rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries and Delonte Henderson rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
Willis' win bumped their season record to 10-0 while The Woodlands' defeat dropped theirs to 7-3.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. The Woodlands has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 155.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Spring struggles in that department as they've been even better at 262.6 per game. It's looking like Thursday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
