The Ocracoke Dolphins can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. Everything went their way against Washington Montessori as Ocracoke made off with a 34-8 win. The victory was just what Ocracoke needed coming off of a 53-15 defeat in their prior match.
Ocracoke's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jami Martinez led the charge by scoring 10 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Martinez has scored at least 25% of Ocracoke's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Heidy Lora, who scored 10 points.
Ocracoke's win bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Washington Montessori, they have yet to win a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 0-5 record.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ocracoke will challenge Southside at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Southside presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ocracoke in North Carolina (Southside is ranked 187th, while Ocracoke is ranked 527th). Washington Montessori will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ocracoke at 4:00 p.m. on January 11, 2024.
