Southeast Career Tech and Spring Valley are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Roadrunners will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Southeast Career Tech is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Coronado just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 8-0 to the Cougars. The game marked the first time this year in which the Roadrunners were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Spring Valley had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Spartans. Considering the Grizzlies have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Isabella Lenahan was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Flores, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Spring Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cimarron-Memorial only posted an OBP of .414.
Spring Valley pushed their record up to 17-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Southeast Career Tech, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-9.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southeast Career Tech hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. However, it's not like Spring Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Southeast Career Tech's way against Spring Valley in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Southeast Career Tech made off with an 11-0 victory. Will the Roadrunners repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
