Baseball Recap: Lawrence County Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Lawrence County won the last time they faced Richland and things went their way on Friday too. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Rangers. Considering the Cougars have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Weston Dunaway made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lawrence County is 5-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Dunaway was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Caden Case was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grey Boyd, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Lawrence County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .739. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .576 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Lawrence County's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Richland, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Lawrence County and Richland are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Friday against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. As for Richland, they will welcome Vicksburg at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rangers are facing the Gators at the right time seeing as the Gators are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
