AAA Region 8 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Rob Farriba of North Oconee ran for the longest rushing play in AAA Region 8 this season against Jackson County last week. Farriba scampered for 51 yards on the play and finished with 65 on the day as his team topped the Panthers.
Elbert County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. The Blue Devils vanquished East Jackson 42-2 earlier in the week.
North Oconee's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick Colvin threw for 95 and one touchdown and Bobby Dando had 54 yards receiving. John Jarrard helped North Oconee's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
North Oconee's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Titans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Colvin has thrown for 326 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Jarrard has five catches for 112 yards. Zantravious Shields leads the league in rushing with 171 yards.
The top two teams in AAA Region 8 will face off this week when first place Morgan County takes on second place North Oconee. Last week, Morgan County bested Oconee County, while the Titans topped Jackson County.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when North Oconee takes on the Bulldogs. The Titans have allowed 56 points this season, while Morgan County has given up 43. North Oconee allowed 6 points last week as it bested the Panthers.
The Bulldogs extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Warriors, 56-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
