Cornerstone Charter is 0-5 against Bishop McGuinness since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Cornerstone Charter's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Leadership Academy 60-27. Cornerstone Charter was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-9.
Despite their defeat, Cornerstone Charter saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kaylen Williamson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 44.4% of Cornerstone Charter's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Maloree Walthaw, who scored four points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Bishop McGuinness stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. Everything went their way against Albemarle as Bishop McGuinness made off with a 74-48 win. Bishop McGuinness' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Adelaide Jernigan was her usual excellent self, scoring 31 points. Kiersten Varner was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Cornerstone Charter's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Bishop McGuinness, their win bumped their record up to 14-3.
Cornerstone Charter was taken down by Bishop McGuinness 60-16 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jernigan, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Now that Cornerstone Charter knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
