Brookhaven has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Crystal Springs Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brookhaven knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Crystal Springs likes a good challenge.
Brookhaven has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 55-26 victory over Lawrence County at home. With Brookhaven ahead 40-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Brookhaven can attribute much of their success to Jaylen Haliburton, who scored 13 points along with 5 steals, and Jamarius Malone, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds. The contest was Haliburton's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Kordell Collins was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Meanwhile, Crystal Springs ended up a good deal behind Morton on Tuesday and lost 72-53. While losing is never fun, Crystal Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Morton is ranked 41st).
Brookhaven's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Crystal Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Everything went Brookhaven's way against Crystal Springs in their previous meeting back in November of 2019 as Brookhaven made off with a 70-47 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Crystal Springs' Derrick Williams, who scored 22 points. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Brookhaven to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
