The Seaford Bluejays will head out to face off against the Polytech Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Seaford has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Seaford fell victim to Caesar Rodney and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 13-0 to the Riders.
Meanwhile, Polytech entered their tilt with Wilmington Charter on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Force a 12-0 shutout. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Elijiah Benton made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Benton was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Hermes Rodriguez was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Richard Clegg also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Polytech's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Seaford, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Seaford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Polytech struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Seaford came out on top in a nail-biter against Polytech in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bluejays since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
