After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ponce De Leon, the Freeport Bulldogs were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They walked away with a 53-45 win over Walton. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Freeport also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2023.
Freeport got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sienna Fisher out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. Those 17 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Ludwig, who scored seven points along with four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Walton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maleaha Johnson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for her. Raegan Wright was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Even though they lost, Walton were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freeport only pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
Freeport's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Walton, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeport will take on Destin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Walton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Baker at 6:30 p.m. on January 12th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Baker is ranked 395th, while Walton is ranked 386th).
