Cassie Stallone was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Matelon Barber was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cary Academy came into Thursday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Thales Academy Apex last Thursday as they made off with a 17-2 win.
Mirella DiGiulio was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She also put up four walks, which were her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Anika Kadumpalli was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Shaughnessy, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Cary Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Cary Academy picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Durham Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Cary Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Durham Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Cary Academy, though, as they've been averaging 12.4 hits. Given Durham Academy's sizable advantage in that area, the Chargers will need to find a way to close that gap.
