Adair County has gone 9-1 against Caverna recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Colonels at 5:30 p.m. Caverna took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Adair County, who comes in off a win.
On Tuesday, Adair County was able to grind out a solid victory over Green County, taking the game 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.
Keylin Bergin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jazalynn Young, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Allee Campbell, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Adair County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Caverna didn't have quite enough to beat Metcalfe County on Tuesday and fell 4-3.
Adreana Salvador was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Salvador was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Salvador wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dallia Wood, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Caverna has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season. As for Adair County, their win bumped their record up to 12-13.
Caverna's pitching crew better be locked in on Thursday. Adair County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. It's a different story for Caverna, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Adair County in the park?
Adair County came out on top in a nail-biter against Caverna in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
