Wenonah has been on the road for six straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Parker Thundering Herd at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Wenonah focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Wenonah came up short against Minor and fell 61-50. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Wenonah came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Minor is ranked 110th).
Wenonah's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gabrielle Blanks, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Samarian Franklin who scored 22 points. Franklin scored a full 44% of Wenonah's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jakerria Ringstaff was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Parker earned a 45-32 win over Gadsden City on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Parker.
Their wins bumped Wenonah to 8-2 and Minor to 7-3.
Wenonah couldn't quite finish off Parker when the teams last played back in January and fell 57-54. Thankfully for Wenonah, Takyya Blanton (who scored 13 points along with 3 blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
