3A Conference 7 recap October 1, 2013
Rocky Reid of Concord ran for the longest rushing play in 3A Conference 7 this season against East Rowan last week. Reid's team topped the Mustangs as he sprinted for 89 yards on the play and finished with 271 in all.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Concord beat East Rowan 55-28. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Reid provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Spiders beat Danny Misenheimer's team. Reid's key target this week was Myles Neils, who caught 2 passes for 42 yards.
Reid was a force in the backfield as Concord topped the Mustangs.
Reid was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 271 yards as the Spiders lost to West Rowan. Teammate Terry Cassell added to the ground attack by rushing for 95 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Aaron Kennerly of the Raiders is the league leader in passing yards this season with 691. He has also thrown 3 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Seth Wyrick. The East Rowan star has 28 catches for 442 yards.
The top two teams in 3A Conference 7 will face off this week when first place Concord takes on second place Central Cabarrus. Concord beat East Rowan last week, while Central Cabarrus topped Hickory Ridge.
Northwest Cabarrus moved up to 178 from 208 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Trojans were able to move up by besting Cox Mill 41-35.
