The Corning Cardinals's four-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 66-26 blowout they got at home against Central Valley. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Corning has managed all season.
Leading Corning to victory were Kaidan Raker and Roman Bennett. Raker scored 13 points, while Bennett scored 17 points along with three steals. Bennett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeff Mendros, who scored ten points.
Central Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Vincent Vanpal, who scored 12 points, and Robert Short who scored two points. Vanpal scored a full 46.2% of Central Valley's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Central Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They are winless (0-3) when they just don't pass the ball.
Corning's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Central Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.
