Baseball Recap: Sayre Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Sayre lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Choctawhatchee, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Indians on Thursday. Considering the Spartans have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jaxson Howard tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Gary Gibson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had over his last seven contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Herrera, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sayre pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Choctawhatchee, their loss dropped their record down to 14-11.

Looking ahead, Sayre will welcome Scott County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Choctawhatchee, they will challenge Fort Walton Beach at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
