Burlingame is 1-6 against Menlo-Atherton since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Panthers will head out to square off against the Bears at 5:45 p.m. Burlingame will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
On Monday, Burlingame had just enough and edged out Junipero Serra 3-2.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Burlingame got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-6.
Meanwhile, Menlo-Atherton hadn't done well against Carlmont recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. The Bears came out on top against the Scots by a score of 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.
Menlo-Atherton was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21.
Burlingame better focus on containing Coen Chou and Nick Sandoval as the pair were huge in Menlo-Atherton's win. Chou had 19 assists and ten digs, while Sandoval had 23 digs. Chou is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 15 or more in each of the last seven games he's played.
Menlo-Atherton was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last 12 matches.
Menlo-Atherton's record now sits at 21-5. As for Burlingame, they pushed their record up to 21-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Burlingame couldn't quite get it done against Menlo-Atherton in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 3-1. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
