The St. John Lutheran Saints's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Innovation Montessori 49-43.
St. John Lutheran's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Gravante, who scored 11 points along with nine assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that Gravante posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Cage Patrick, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, St. John Lutheran were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Shalom Barnes was the offensive standout of the game as he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trevor Thorsen, who scored 13 points.
St. John Lutheran has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season. As for Innovation Montessori, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-11.
St. John Lutheran will look to defend their home court on Monday against Hart 2 Hart Academy at 6:30 p.m. Innovation Montessori won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Babcock at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Babcock is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
