Addy Schmidt made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Myah Pederson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Arabella Timm, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Brookfield Academy never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Shorewood as they made off with a 23-0 win. The Blue Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Luther Prep, Brookfield Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Julia Van Bogart. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Van Bogart posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Leora Schmidt was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last nine matches. Olivia Schmidt also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Brookfield Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Luther Prep pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Brookfield Academy, their record now sits at 9-7.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Luther Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Brookfield Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Luther Prep took their victory against Brookfield Academy in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Phoenix since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
