The Glastonbury Guardians will face off against the Southington Blue Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Glastonbury sitting on 11 straight wins and Southington on four.
On Friday, Glastonbury got the win against Edwin O. Smith by a conclusive 3-0.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Glastonbury was: they took every set by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-11, 25-14.
Glastonbury's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Leah Mosca, who had six digs and three aces, and Abby Kantor, who had three digs and two aces. Lexi Marques also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
They weren't the only good servers: Glastonbury was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Southington made easy work of New Britain on Monday and carried off a 3-0 victory.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-14, 25-19.
Southington's win came from a few key players Glastonbury will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Laura Esguerra, who had 16 assists and seven aces. That's the most aces she has posted since back in October of 2024.
Glastonbury's record is now 21-2-2. As for Southington, their record now sits at 15-9-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Glastonbury has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9 aces per game. However, it's not like Southington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
