The Richardson Eagles won the last time they faced the MacArthur Cardinals, and things went their way on Friday too. Richardson blew past MacArthur 74-23 at home. Given Richardson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while MacArthur is ranked 975th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Richardson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenzie Ponder, who scored 20 points along with six assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Ponder scored 15 or more points. Tristan Aldridge was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Richardson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-13 record this season. As for MacArthur, they dropped their record down to 4-20 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richardson will take on Berkner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Berkner is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. MacArthur will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pearce at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
