The Cass City Red Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Millington Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cass City's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Millington's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Monday, Cass City made easy work of Bullock Creek and carried off an 11-5 win. The Red Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.
Hayden Anthes was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Anthes was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Brown, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Cass City hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Millington lost a heartbreaker to Ubly when they met back in April of 2015, and they left with a heavy heart again on Monday. The Cardinals took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bearcats. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Bearcats: they've now lost three in a row.
Millington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lukas Henderson, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Matt Baker also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Cass City's record now sits at 8-3. As for Millington, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Cass City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Millington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cass City took their victory against Millington when the teams last played back in June of 2023 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Do the Red Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
