Charlotte Christian has gone 8-2 against Providence Day recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Knights will be playing at home against the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Charlotte Christian took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cannon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Knights sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 victory over the Cougars on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Knights sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Anna Hinde was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Francois, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Charlotte Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Providence Day, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let Cary Academy get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Tuesday. Providence Day might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Rachel Lyons made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Hartsell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Erin Marrino was another key player, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Charlotte Christian's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Providence Day, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Charlotte Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Providence Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Charlotte Christian took their win against Providence Day when the teams last played last Tuesday by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
