The Edinburg Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Edinburg comes in on four and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on six.
Last Friday, Edinburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Edinburg North, taking the game 34-21.
Ryen Abrego was his usual excellent self, rushing for 275 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. Abrego was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Jude Vega was in the mix too, providing Edinburg with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Mission on the road to the tune of 55-14. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Pharr-San Juan-Alamo just coasted through the last quarter.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo relied on the efforts of Jorge Alanis, who rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per carry, and Jaime Lopez, who threw for 374 yards and four touchdowns. Lopez is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Salas, who picked up 60 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Joshua Castillo and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Edinburg to 4-5 and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo to 6-3.
Edinburg came up short against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 38-28. Can Edinburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
