The South River Rams were the 83-56 winner over the Point Pleasant Boro Panthers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. South River fell 58-48 to Point Pleasant Boro on Saturday. While losing is never fun, South River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Point Pleasant Boro is ranked 128th).
Despite the loss, South River still got an impressive performance from Alex Grospe, who scored 31 points along with four steals. That was a full 64.6% of South River's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Herrera, who scored eight points.
South River's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Point Pleasant Boro, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South River will take on Metuchen at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Point Pleasant Boro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Long Branch at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Long Branch has struggled recently with 11 losses in a row, while Point Pleasant Boro will arrive with three straight wins.
