The Anclote Sharks will face off against the Springstead Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Anclote is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Monday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Keswick Christian.
Sam Fanning put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2025. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Dylan Dukes made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Jayden Ortiz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Springstead came into Tuesday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Central a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Anclote, Springstead also got a great game from a two-way player: Matthieu Opolski-Roe. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Opolski-Roe has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those runs were his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Giannie, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Springstead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Springstead's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Anclote, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Anclote's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Sharks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Springstead, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Anclote continue to outrun the ball?
