Football Recap: Yale Comes Up Short Despite Lucas Reece's Big Defensive Game

Yale was the 46-0 winner over Coyle when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bulldogs received a blow on Thursday as they fell 48-32 to the Bluejackets. The Bulldogs were down 48-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Yale lost, don't look at Braiden Hodgett. Despite the final result, he rushed for 289 yards and five TDs while picking up 11.6 yards per carry. Hodgett's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Even if they lost, Yale's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 5.5 sacks. Lucas Reece was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Carsen Hock and Elijah Sims. Hock rushed for 225 yards while picking up 7.5 yards per carry while Sims rushed for 126 yards on only ten carries. Sims' longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Yale's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Coyle, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yale will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ringwood at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. As for Coyle, they will take on Bluejacket at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th.
