On Friday, The Mancos Bluejays faced the Sanford Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mancos took their match at home with ease, bagging a 58-0 win over Sanford. The result was nothing new for Mancos, who have now won six contests by 30 points or more so far this season.
Kail Wayman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 201 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per carry, and also throwing for 88 yards and a touchdown. Levi Martin was another key contributor, rushing for 117 yards on only nine carries.
The victory (which was Mancos' fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. As for Sanford, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mancos will take on Norwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Norwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Mancos is ranked third). As for Sanford, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Dolores at 6:00 p.m. Dolores comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
