The Elizabeth Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 63-54 to Coronado. Elizabeth has not had much luck with Coronado recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Elizabeth lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ethan Stone, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stone has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Diessen Lindsay, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Elizabeth were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. This was only their tenth loss (out of 13 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Coronado's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lyrik Smith, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Realiti Smith was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Elizabeth has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Coronado, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elizabeth will square off against Littleton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Littleton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. Coronado will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Mesa Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Mesa Ridge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,020 points over their last 15 games.
