After both having extra time off, the Martin County Tigers and the Centennial Eagles will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Martin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Martin County will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating John Carroll Catholic, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Martin County narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past John Carroll Catholic 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Brealyn White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in February.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maya Scotti, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Centennial entered their tilt with Vero Beach last Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Indians a 5-0 shutout.
Hailey Brereton made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Kylie Coblentz and Myrna Pratt did most of the damage at the plate: Coblentz scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Pratt scored a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Coblentz has posted since back in April of 2024.
Centennial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vero Beach only managed one hit.
Centennial's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Martin County, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Martin County's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. Martin County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Centennial, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Martin County continue to outrun the ball?
Martin County might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Centennial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Martin County have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
