St. Charles is 8-2 against Lackey since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. St. Charles will look to defend their home court against the Lackey Chargers at 6:30 p.m. St. Charles is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
St. Charles posted their closest win yet this season on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Chopticon out 70-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
St. Charles' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shamir Taylor led the charge by scoring 20 points. Tajir Webster was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Lackey's game on Monday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against La Plata by a score of 53-46. Given Lackey's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while La Plata is ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lackey can attribute much of their success to Kentavious Dancy, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Dancy pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Mansaray, who scored 16 points.
St. Charles' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.2 points per game. As for Lackey, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
St. Charles was able to grind out a solid victory over Lackey in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 84-77. Does St. Charles have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lackey turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
