The P.K. Yonge Blue Wave will challenge the Hawthorne Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. P.K. Yonge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, P.K. Yonge didn't have quite enough to beat Bradford and fell 8-7. The Blue Wave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Emma Mansfield was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jessica Bain, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hawthorne). Everything went their way against Saint Francis Catholic on Monday as they made off with a 20-5 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kiya Lowe was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lowe was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Makenzie Swilley was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Holly Moore was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Hawthorne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. They are 4-1-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The victory got Hawthorne back to even at 4-4-1. As for P.K. Yonge, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. P.K. Yonge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like Hawthorne struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went P.K. Yonge's way against Hawthorne when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as P.K. Yonge made off with a 13-5 win. Do the Blue Wave have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
