Softball Recap: Atchison Wins Going Away Against Sumner Academy

Atchison's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Sumner Academy Sabres. The Phoenix might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 11 runs or more this season.

Kirrah Duncan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Bowen, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Rebant, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Atchison's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Sumner Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Atchison will take on rival Harmon at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Phoenix's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. Meanwhile, Sumner Academy is set to challenge their familiar foe Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
