The Sonora Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Calaveras Red Hawks at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Sonora will be looking to keep their 16-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Friday, Sonora didn't have too much trouble with Argonaut at home as they won 56-41.
It was another big night for Jonathan Curran, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Roger Edwards was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Calaveras was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 41-40 to Amador.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Corbin Curran, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Moser, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Sonora has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. As for Calaveras, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sonora have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Calaveras struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sonora was able to grind out a solid win over Calaveras in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 59-46. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Calaveras' Jay Clifton, who scored 19 points along with two steals. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Sonora to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
