The Southern Durham Spartans waltzed into their matchup Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They blew past East Chapel Hill 65-39. Southern Durham's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Southern Durham found their leader in underclassman Ashlyn Hudson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Hudson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jakayla Palmer, who scored ten points along with five steals.
Southern Durham's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for East Chapel Hill, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Southern Durham won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Apex Friendship at 6:00 p.m. on December 21st. Hopefully Apex Friendship focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 39 last Friday. East Chapel Hill will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Southern Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
