Sophie Klawitter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Beecher came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 14-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 18 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Taylor Norkus made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Norkus was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Beecher let Mia Chavez and Ava Olson run wild. Chavez went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Olson went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most runs Chavez has posted over her last 11 games. Makenzie Johnson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Beecher was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matches.
Peotone's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Beecher, their win bumped their record up to 26-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Peotone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Beecher struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
