The Pungo Christian Academy Raiders waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins but they left with four. They came out on top against Albemarle School by a score of 60-48. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Pungo Christian Academy also won the last time the pair played on January 5th.
It was another big night for Allison Sawyer, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Alden Taylor was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Several Colts players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madelyn Delosreyes, who scored 13 points along with six steals and five assists. Delosreyes hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Braelyne Brewer, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Albemarle School were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Pungo Christian Academy's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Albemarle School, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pungo Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lawrence Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Lawrence Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Friday. As for Albemarle School, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ridgecroft at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Ridgecroft will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
